Located in southeastern Brazil is the city of Rio de Janeiro. For people of the area, Rio de Janeiro is often times referred to as the Marvelous City.

With a population of just over six million people, Rio de Janeiro is one of the most highly populated cities in South America. The good thing is that all of these people bring a unique feel to the culture of Rio de Janeiro. And this is one reason that the tourism industry in this city is among the best in the world. Every year thousands of people head for Rio de Janeiro to soak up the atmosphere.

If you are going to be planning a trip to Rio de Janeiro you may want to do it during the biggest party of the year; the Carnival. Every year Rio de Janeiro has a carnival in which people show up to have nothing but a great time. It is accompanied by music, sales, and fun. And do not forget about all the people who go to the carnival every year. Just one day alone will bring in close to 200,000. All of this makes the carnival one of the most popular events in the world year in and year out.

For people that are interested in sports, Rio de Janeiro is the place to be. This holds particularly true if you are interested in soccer. But Rio de Janeiro goes well beyond just one sport. Other popular sports include beach volleyball, beach football, and motor racing to name a few. On the water sailing and rowing are popular activities; both activities that you can take part in during your trip to Rio de Janeiro.
